The market value of the seized drugs was determined to be a breathtaking 5 billion 609 million Turkish Lira.
According to a statement from the Ministry, efforts to strengthen both human resources and technical infrastructure in the fight against smuggling are ongoing. As a result of meticulous intelligence and field work carried out within this scope, a suspicious shipment at the Gürbulak Customs Gate was put under surveillance. Detailed inspections revealed that the drugs were hidden in an incredible way, impregnated within coal. Crucially, domestically produced drug test kits, which provide rapid and reliable results in the field, instantly confirmed that the suspicious substances were methamphetamine, cementing the operation’s success. This allowed for the immediate seizure of the enormous quantity of drugs.
Record Increase in the First Half of the Year: Over 17 Tons of Drugs Seized
This latest operation marks one of the most striking links in the chain of successful operations carried out by the Customs Enforcement teams this year. Anti-smuggling efforts reportedly intensified, particularly in June. With this “historic” seizure in Gürbulak, the total amount of drugs confiscated since the beginning of the year has reached 17 tons 144 kilograms. The total market value of these drugs is recorded as 19 billion 911 million 394 thousand 573 Turkish Lira.
These figures indicate a record 234% increase compared to the previous period, revealing that drug seizures have reached an all-time high. This clearly demonstrates the effectiveness and determination of Turkey’s relentless fight against drug trafficking. Furthermore, the use of domestically developed technologies in these successes showcases Turkey’s self-sufficiency capacity.
