General Test Kit Usage And Result Interpretation

What are the general usage principles and steps for TAG detection kits?

Generally, all TAG rapid detection kits (urine, saliva, surface/substance, alcohol) work on the principle of first collecting the appropriate sample (urine, saliva, swab from surface, or direct substance), then correctly applying this sample to the test kit, and finally reading the result within the specified time. Each kit comes with its own detailed and visually supported instructions for use.

How quickly are test results obtained and when should they be read?

Most TAG rapid detection kits provide results within minutes after sample application. Generally, results are read within 3-5 minutes, once the control line (C) appears. However, results obtained after 15 minutes should not be considered valid or interpreted, as the reaction might have completed or changed by that time.

How are test results interpreted?

Test results are generally interpreted as follows:

  • Negative Result: Both the control line (C) and the test line (T) appear on the test kit. This indicates that the detected substance is below the threshold value.
  • Positive Result: Only the control line (C) appears; the test line (T) is not visible. This indicates that the detected substance is above the threshold value.
  • Invalid Result: The control line (C) does not appear at all, or no lines appear. In this case, the test is invalid and should be repeated with a new kit.

Why might test kits yield an "invalid" result?

Invalid results usually indicate that the test wasn't performed according to the instructions (e.g., insufficient sample, incorrect application) or that the kit's storage conditions were unsuitable (e.g., damaged kit). The absence of a control line means the test isn't functioning correctly or the reaction hasn't occurred. In such cases, the result is unreliable.

Why are the cut-off values for test kits important?

Cut-off values (in ng/mL or ‰) indicate the minimum concentration required for a substance to be considered positive in the test. These values are determined in accordance with national and international standards and reflect the test's sensitivity. If the substance concentration in the sample is below this cut-off, the result will be negative; if it's above, it will be positive.

Are drug and alcohol test kits only valid for forensic and workplace use?

Some of our products (for example, the Saliva Drug Test Kit) are designed solely for forensic and workplace use. However, we also have products designed for individual use (for example, ALCODOT Alcohol Test). The intended use and limitations of each product are clearly stated on its product detail page and in its instructions for use.

What should I do if my test results are positive?

Rapid test kits are a screening tool. A positive result is a preliminary assessment and indicates the presence of a substance. For a definitive diagnosis, it's strongly recommended that you consult a healthcare facility for confirmatory tests (e.g., laboratory tests). These kits should not be used for diagnosis or treatment purposes.

FAQ by Product

Can the TAG Surface and Solid/Liquid Substance Detection Kit detect both surface residues and direct solid or liquid substances?

Yes, this kit has a dual-use feature. It can detect residues from suspected surfaces using swab samples and also directly identify the presence of illicit drugs in suspicious solid or liquid substances themselves.

What are the main areas of use for the substance detection kit?

This kit is primarily used in customs and border controls for combating smuggling, for rapid preliminary assessment by narcotics and law enforcement agencies in suspicious areas, for ensuring workplace safety in businesses and security departments, and by individuals to confirm the potential presence of substances in their homes or surroundings.

Which substances can the TAG Saliva Drug Detection Kit detect, and what is its main advantage?

It can detect common illicit substances such as Amphetamine (AMP), Methamphetamine (MET), Ecstasy (MDMA), Benzodiazepines (BZO), Cocaine (COC), Opiates (OPI), and Cannabis (THC). Its biggest advantage is being non-invasive (not requiring blood or urine collection) and practical, which makes it ideal for quickly determining if a person is under the influence of a substance at the time of the test.

Are there any special considerations to keep in mind when collecting a saliva sample?

You shouldn't eat, drink, chew gum, or smoke for at least 15 minutes before performing the test. Additionally, you need to ensure you collect a sufficient sample by swabbing the inside of your mouth and under your tongue with the saliva collection stick for 30 seconds.

Which substances can the TAG Urine Drug Detection Kit detect, and does it provide information about past use?

This kit can simultaneously detect many common illicit substances and their metabolites, such as Amphetamine, Methamphetamine, Ecstasy, Benzodiazepines, Cocaine, Opiates, and Cannabis. Due to the varying persistence times of certain substances in the body (from a few days to several weeks, depending on the substance type and amount used), urine tests can also provide information about past use.

What is the intended use and result interpretation for the ALCODOT Alcohol Detection Kit?

ALCODOT is designed for individual use to quickly detect alcohol levels via saliva. Results are read 2 minutes after placing the test strip in the mouth. If there's a blue color change in the test area, it means the alcohol level has exceeded the 0.5‰ (five per mille) threshold (positive). If there's no color change, it means the level is below the threshold (negative).
