Ankara – The customs enforcement teams of the Ministry of Trade have achieved a record-breaking success in their fight against illegal drug trafficking, confiscating a total of 2 tons 116 kilograms of narcotics across the country within the last 4 days. This historic series of seizures has dealt a severe blow to drug traffickers and once again demonstrated the effectiveness of the customs enforcement organization. It was particularly emphasized that domestically produced and TAG Defence drug test kits played a critical role in these operations.
764 Kilograms of Liquid Methamphetamine Seized from a Fuel Tank in Gürbulak: TAG Defence Test Kits in Action
A significant part of the operation chain took place at the Gürbulak Customs Gate in Ağrı. A truck attempting to enter the country was deemed risky and sent for X-Ray scanning. Images from the state-of-the-art Vehicle and Container Scanning System, actively used in anti-smuggling efforts by the General Directorate of Customs Enforcement, were meticulously analyzed by customs enforcement personnel. As a result of the analysis, a suspicious image was detected in the vehicle’s fuel tank.
A sample taken from the identified area was tested with a domestically produced, handheld drug detection device belonging to TAG Defence, and it was confirmed to be methamphetamine. The teams successfully seized 764 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine, cleverly concealed in the fuel tank. The investigation into the incident is being diligently continued by the Doğubayazıt Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. In this operation, the TAG Defence test kits provided quick and reliable results, enabling the immediate identification of the drug type and greatly contributing to the operation’s success.
Record Drug Busts at Four Gates in Four Days: Domestic Technology Made a Difference
In addition to this major seizure in Gürbulak, customs enforcement teams carried out significant drug operations at various other locations within the last 4 days:
- 279 kilograms of marijuana at Ambarlı Port
- 382 kilograms of marijuana at Kapıkule Customs Gate
- 691 kilograms of methamphetamine at Dilucu Customs Gate
- 764 kilograms of liquid methamphetamine at Gürbulak Customs Gate
With a total of 2 tons 116 kilograms of drugs seized in such a short period, the customs enforcement teams have set a historic record. This success is an indicator of their determination in fighting smuggling and the effective use of intelligence and technological capabilities. The success of domestically produced and TAG Defence drug test kits in these operations particularly highlighted Turkey’s technological competence in this field. The General Directorate of Customs Enforcement continues to protect the country’s borders like a fortress against drug trafficking.
